Wales has 15 open padel venues and 65 courts across 8 of 22 councils, as of 2026-10-17. A further 5 sites are in planning or pre-opening and are listed separately.
Padel is a racket sport played in doubles on an enclosed court about a third the size of a tennis court. The walls are part of the game, so the ball stays in play longer and rallies last. Scoring follows tennis, but the underhand serve and the smaller court make it far easier to pick up — most beginners are playing proper points in their first session.
That is a large part of why it has spread so quickly. It is social, it suits most ages and fitness levels, and four friends can book a court for an hour without needing lessons first. Read the full rules.
Five regions, and the honest state of each. These counts are the counted venues only — pipeline sites are named separately further down and never mixed in.
4 counted venues in Cardiff, with 25 courts between them. 14 of them are indoor. 1 more site is in the pipeline. Indoor venues here mean you can play all year regardless of the weather.
3 counted venues across Pembrokeshire and Swansea, with 20 courts between them. 11 of them are indoor. 1 more site is in the pipeline. Coverage thins out quickly beyond Swansea itself.
6 counted venues across Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen and Vale of Glamorgan, with 14 courts between them. 6 of them are indoor. 2 more sites are in the pipeline. Courts here are usually added at an existing sports club rather than built as a padel centre.
2 counted venues in Wrexham, with 6 courts between them. 6 of them are indoor. 1 more site is in the pipeline. Courts here tend to sit alongside tennis at an existing racket club.
No courts counted here yet, and nothing in the pipeline either. The thinnest coverage in the country.
Use the finder below to narrow by council, court type and price.
Indoor is the common choice in Wales, for an obvious reason: of the 15 counted venues, 8 have at least one indoor court, 6 have an outdoor court and 3 have a covered one. An indoor venue means you can book with confidence in January as well as July.
Outdoor and covered courts are often cheaper and are common at tennis clubs that have converted or added a court. Plenty of players use both, depending on the season.
10 of the 15 counted venues publish a booking link, either their own site or a booking app; the rest take bookings by phone or through social media. Courts usually go per hour or per 90 minutes for four players.
8 of them list racket or equipment hire, so if you are new it is worth checking before you travel rather than assuming. Beginner sessions, social mix-ins and coaching courses are the usual way in — 10 venues list coaching.

5 sites are in planning or pre-opening against 15 already counted, which is a pipeline worth roughly a 33% increase on today's venues. There is clear interest from landowners, sports clubs, leisure operators and investors — but no two sites are equally viable.
If you are weighing up building courts, converting a building, or adding padel to an existing club, the site decides most of it: catchment, planning, the roof height an indoor court needs, parking and the lease terms. We give independent advice on that, from a commercial property and investment background rather than a coaching one.
The two enquiry routes are at the top of this page — one for operators looking at sites, one for landlords with a building.
Padel venues in Wales open, expand and change their prices faster than any directory can keep up with alone. Everything here was read at the operator’s own source and carries the date it was checked — if you run a club that is missing, or you spot a figure that has moved, tell us and we will correct it.
A padel court is 20 m × 10 m. It is doubles. The serve is underarm. Walls are in play. Scoring follows tennis (15/30/40/deuce) and games are usually to six, with a tiebreak at 6–6. Some venues use golden point. Read the full rules guide.
Answers come only from this dataset, with a venue and checked date on every court or price claim.
The live count is on this page (open venues and courts, as of the checked date). Pipeline sites are listed separately and are not in the open total.
Cardiff has several open venues including Smash Padel, Padium, David Lloyd and Cardiff City House of Sport. See the Cardiff council page for courts, prices and booking links.
Published prices are typically charged per court per hour, then split between players. Use the price table and calculator on this hub. We do not invent missing prices.
Some clubs (for example David Lloyd) include padel in membership. Pay-and-play venues are labelled. Check the venue row before you travel.
Both. Filter the venue table for indoor, covered or outdoor. Indoor stock is still clustered in a few councils.
Most venues hire rackets. Wear court shoes with non-marking soles. Beginner sessions are listed where the operator has confirmed coaching.
No. The court is smaller, the walls are in play, and the serve is underarm. Read the short rules primer on this page or the full rules guide.
Windsor Lawn Tennis Club in Penarth opened the first court in April 2021, according to LTA Tennis Wales coverage at the time.
We record a source URL and a checked date for courts and prices. Owners can claim the listing and confirm fields. Stale rows stay visible but lose the verified label after 120 days.
Yes. Claim an existing row or add a listing. Paid placement never changes an Index rank or a Dai answer.
Open means the operator is taking play, not merely that planning exists. We exclude dropped duplicates. Paid placement never sits inside an Index table. Cite as: All In Wales, Padel in Wales dataset, checked 2026-10-17, allinwales.com/directory/padel.
